So with our new house, I finally get my chance to have my own vanity! With all the beauty products I have, I really need a place to store them so they aren’t just stuffed in places. Out of sight out of mind usually applies to this and I don’t want a product I have to go bad because I ignored it.

This project is going to cost money but in order to minimize the cost I like to shop around at second-hand stores, plus my overall theme will be vintage and where else can I get actual vintage products than a thrift store?

I spotted these two glass jars for $2 each and I knew I had to have them.

The details on the lids are gorgeous and very well made. The jars themselves actually have some heft to them. While yes they are made of glass I know they are more delicate but they look so pretty that I know I will have to take care of them. I am currently using them for cotton balls but I may change my mind and use them for something else.

What do you think I should use them for?

Cailyn Just Mineral Eye Polish in Champagne

Honestly I did not think that I would like this Shadow. I thought the color wouldn’t stand out enough, I thought the applicator would be horrible and the fallout would be extreme. I am so happy that I was wrong. There was surprisingly little fallout when I took the small sponge applicator out, the applicator itself it was soft and flexible. The polish is a shimmery Champagne color which showed up well with my light skin-tone. Although I use primer no matter what I shadow I use, due to my oily eyes, the way this shadow feels makes me think it may actually last a good amount of time on. Overall, while I feel that $15 is just a bit too much for a single shadow color, if it ever goes on sale be sure I will snatch one up.

I Bought a Makeup Brush Cleaner!

One of things I have to do, but hate to do is clean my brushes. It takes me a long time to clean them and it takes me a long time to dry them. I’ve seen a couple of mechanical make up cleaners on the scene, but honestly they are way past my budget. I spotted this beauty on Amazon and it was in my budget. Now Amazon is usually hit and miss when it comes to certain things.

The mechanical part is not that bad. It looks nice but it’s not ergonomic or anything. After locating 2 AAA batteries (took me a couple of days) I found out that I can only use this in short burst because the vibration of the motor makes my hand really tired.

The little bowl that you add the water and cleaner is nice and big. You actually don’t need that much water to clean so no need to fill it up too much.

The little grips that you put your brushes in fits most (but not all) brushes. I found that it did not fit my real technique brushes at all. Wonder if you can get other attachments. This worked really well on my big and medium size brushes but any small brushes, like a small concealer brush did not clean all that well. Overall, I think it was worth the money I paid for it. If I have to clean one of two brushes on my own it’s no problem as long as this cleans a majority of them.

#SampleSunday Empty Samples

I’ve made it a goal of mine to use all my samples up since I have so many and I foresee myself getting more especially since I plan on getting another beauty subscription (any recommendations will help!). So I just want to share with you all my empty samples and my thoughts on them. I don’t have too many but I am trying.

I got a sample of this yaby foundation a while back and I wanted to use it. I was really surprised at how cakey this felt on my face. It was heavy and I really didn’t like it. I wont be purchasing this that is for sure.

I feel like everyone has gotten a sample of theBalm Put a Lid on Itthe eye primer wasn’t too bad and did it’s job after 9 hours at work it did start to wear off a bit, but I have really oily lids so it is hard for me to find a primer that lasts all day. I may purchase this if it goes on sale.

the Naobay Oxygenating cream is the best product out of the three. A little cream went a long way and this sample actually lasted longer than I thought it would. It left my skin feeling very soft and hydrated. I think I would purchase this.

Are there any samples you have tried lately?

#SkincareSaturday ELF Skincare

So E.L.F has really upped their game lately and I am really impressed. How they are able to provide quality items but still staying affordable is beyond me. a while ago they stepped into skincare and I knew I immediately wanted to try them out. I purchased 4 of their products to share with you all, but their range is bigger and I can’t wait to try their others.

e.l.f. Illuminating eye cream is only $10 which for how much you get is a pretty great deal. This cream is in their oily skin line and is meant to help with dark circles and hydrate. Containing ingredients like jojoba and cucumber it is safe for sensitive skin. While it does help with dark circles it felt a little greasy when I applied it to the skin underneath my eye. It did go away but it took longer than I would have liked to soak in.

e.l.f Nourishing night cream available for $12, is surprisingly hydrating, and I found a little goes a long way. This absorbs quicker than the eye cream and does not have that greasy feeling. I found it be very good on my sensitive skin, this also has jojoba and cucumber but you can feel the aloe and shea butter as well. This is a winner.

e.l.f Daily Hydration moisturizer is available for $8, I use this in the morning and I found myself using slightly more of this moisturizer than the night cream. This does have the same ingredients as the other products with added grape antioxidants and bilberry to round it out.

e.l.f soothing serum is available at $12 and meant to help sooth and strengthen the skin. I really like this for the winter months as an extra hydration boost. Since my skin gets super dry in the winter this helps a lot.

I can’t say enough how much I love e.l.f and their products. You will definitely be seeing more of their skincare line on this blog as time goes on. I can’t wait to see how they expand. I want to try their melt cleanser and bubble mask.

Hall of Shame; December Fails

Usually, on this blog, I like to talk about things I like or at least things that are okay. When I review products I like to tell you all the positives as well as the negatives to let you develop your own opinion. However, there are some products that just perform so awful that it upsets me. I hate using my money and getting a product that doesn’t work or breaks or just makes false claims.

So I decided to put it into a sort of Hall of Shame. If these products worked for you let me know! Maybe I just got a one-off and I should try it again.

2017-12-22 12.53.44

This month there were just two so it wasn’t too bad.

First, off the NYX Epic Black Mousse Liner, I was so mad when I opened this and it was dried and unusable. It had shriveled up and looked like a sad piece of coal. There was no way of using it. While I love NYX products, and I had such high hopes for this liner, I couldn’t help but be discouraged by this. I actually got it from an NYX store so I can’t blame a drugstore or whatnot on stocking old products.

The second was theBalm Mr. Write (now) this thing was solid and refused to line. I tried on my hand multiple times, I even tried cutting the tip and using a lighter to melt it slightly. It was just too much of a hassle and such a disappointment. I don’t use theBalm products often because they are slightly pricey for me, so I took a chance on it and it seemed to just bite me in the butt.

Don’t worry I am not writing the brands off *yet* just these particular products.

have you used any products that were not up to snuff?

Grace & Stella Argan Oil Shampoo + Conditioner

2017-12-17 11.21.11

I want to use more cruelty free products and in searching for new shampoo and conditioner and I discovered Grace & Stella Co.

2017-12-17 11.24.55

They have Argan Oil, Jojoba oil, Macadamia Seed Oil, Shea Butter, and Aloe. Which Promotes hair growth, Healing, Moisture and hydration, reduce flakes, and promotes shine.

I have got to say that it does almost all it states it does. I have not used it enough to see if my hair has grown any faster than it usually has, but my hair is shiny and soft. It seems to be repairing the damage I did earlier. The down side is that my hair seems to be holding a lot more static than it normally does. It bothers me a little, this of course won’t be a problem once winter passes. This is an annoyance none the less.

Have you tried this Shampoo and Conditioner?

What My Hubby Got Me For Christmas!

So, the only person who gives me presents anymore is my husband. I’m 30 years old so except for the occasional cookies from coworkers, a gift card from work client, or a Christmas card from a family member I don’t get much in the way of gifts. S I guess this makes it a hubby haul? wait, actually that just makes me sound like I practice Polyandry. I don’t I am a one woman man… or you know the other way around. I really should stop typing. So this is mostly just a picspam post. I will most likely be reviewing these items, so if there is something you want me to review (or swatch) first, let me know!

December Birchbox Unboxing

2017-12-20 16.28.19

This is the last Birchbox for a long time, I remember it being so much better than it is. Plus their reward system changed so much. While yes $10 is still a great price for a beauty subscription, but I just haven’t enjoyed it as much as I thought I would. Either way, December’s box is all about festive vibes.

Bioderma Sensibio H20 Make-Up Removing Micelle Solution

I really like micelle water I use it quite a bit, so getting this is pretty good.

Davines MINU Illuminating Shampoo

This eco-friendly shampoo gently cleanses strands without stripping color. As a result, hair is left shiny and refreshed. Plus, the crisp citrus scent can’t be beat.

More Shampoo. Yay? I know sarcasm doesn’t transfer well to text but still, I needed to get that out. I got shampoo in my last box, and while I do like the brand I just didn’t want more shampoo. If this was a dry shampoo I would have liked it better.

Davines Minu Illuminating Conditioner and Hair Serum.

Infused with protective caper blossom extract, this conditioner tames tangles, leaves hair soft and silky, and helps keep color vibrant for longer.

OKay, I voiced my displeasure about getting a nice sample of shampoo and a packet of conditioner. I didn’t like it then, and I don’t like it now.

This lightweight leave-in treatment helps keep color from fading while boosting your strands’ shine. Bonus: This fresh citrusy scent smells delightful.

I don’t mind getting serums in packages, I really like getting serums actually.

Lord & Berry Magic Brow Pencil

News flash: Your brow hairs are not all one shade. This marbled tip on this pencil helps to mimic dimension and the creamy texture makes it oh-so easy to apply.

So I really like using Benefit for my eyebrows, and I don’t really like using pencils. This does make me curious especially with the marbled tip.

MAC Cosmetics False Lashes Mascara

This mascara’s brush delivers volume, curl, and lengthened lashes with its densely distributed bristles. The pigmented and thickening formula creates a full feathered effect.

This was my Sample Pick from Birchbox because I am kind of a Mascara Addict. I really hope it works well, it will actually be the first MAC mascara I’ve tried.

Sand & Sky BRilliant Skin Purifying Pink Mask

Detoxify and brighten your complexion with this mask made from Australian kaolin clay, organic aloe vera, and Kakadu plum. Apply to clean skin, let sit for 10 minutes, then rinse.

I am actually pretty excited to use this. I’ve heard really good things about it, so I am hoping it works well.

2017-12-20 16.43.48

In this months Birchbox every subscriber got an eyelash curler. Good thing too because I needed to replace mine.

So While this month’s box wasn’t bad, it just didn’t hold my attention. I’ll keep looking though see what else I can find.
